Adelaide Tour Prices: What Each Kind of Tour Costs

An Adelaide tour costs anything from the price of lunch to the price of a weekend away. This guide explains why, shows what each fare covers, lists the extras, and sets every fare side by side, so you can compare the guided tours from Adelaide on what they cost you.

What do Adelaide tours cost?

The fares here start at $21 for a Popeye cruise on the Torrens and run to $648 for two days on Kangaroo Island. Between them, they fall into clear bands:

• City walks: $42 to $73 a person, for 50 minutes to three hours.
• Port River cruise and kayaks: $56 to $63 a person.
• Hills, coast and River Murray days: $84 to $136 a person, with the small-group Cleland day at $260.
• Wine days from Adelaide: $72 to $190 a person.
• Kangaroo Island: $285 to $291 for the day, $648 for two days.

Why is a river cruise $21 and Kangaroo Island $285?

Because you are buying very different amounts of time and transport. The Popeye is 40 to 50 minutes on the Torrens with live commentary, from a landing in the city. Nothing else is in the fare.

The Kangaroo Island day is about 16 hours. The fare pays a coach to Cape Jervis and back, the ferry both ways, a driver-guide, a two-course lunch and the national park fees. Divided by the hours, it is one of the better-value days here; it is only expensive because it is long.

Group size moves prices too. The Cleland day costs more than the other Hills days, and it takes eight guests at most in a premium vehicle, with park entry and a guided visit included.

Is there an Adelaide ticket?

No. Adelaide is a city, so there is no gate and nothing to buy at an entrance. When you look for Adelaide Australia tickets, what you are really buying is a seat on a tour.

Some fares include entry to something that does charge, such as the national parks on Kangaroo Island or Cleland Wildlife Park in the Hills. Others leave the tastings or lunch to you. That difference moves the real cost of a day more than anything else.

What does a wine tour fare include?

On most wine days, the fare pays both the tastings and lunch. The premium Barossa tasting day includes four stops with tastings, a platter lunch and fortified wine with chocolate for $134. The Discover Barossa day includes four winery visits with tastings and lunch at Kies Family Wines for $115.

The Hahndorf and Barossa day pays two tastings and a gourmet lunch for $115. At the top, the eight-guest day pays every tasting fee and lunch at the Stockwell Hotel for $190, with five to seven pours at each stop.

The Adelaide Highlights day pays two structured tastings in McLaren Vale, but lunch is yours to buy.

When do you pay tasting fees at the door?

On the hop-on hop-off buses and the private Barossa day. There you pay each cellar door's own tasting fee as you go. Every winery sets its own fee and can change it, which is why no amount is printed here.

The Barossa hop-on hop-off bus costs $72, the lowest wine fare, and includes the bus, bottled water and GST. It leaves out lunch, alcoholic drinks and every tasting fee. Add those before you compare it with an all-in day.

If you plan to take bottles home, ask at the counter how the tasting fee works with a purchase.

Which prices are per group?

Only the private Barossa day in a BMW 5 Series, at $462 for a group of up to four. Shared between four, that is about $115 each, close to the Discover Barossa day per head, but the private day leaves the tastings and lunch to be paid on the day.

Every other fare here is per person. Check the unit printed beside each price before you compare fares.

What does the 2-day Kangaroo Island fare cover?

The 2-day wildlife tour costs $648, about $324 a day. It includes a guide for both days, two lunches, one dinner and one breakfast, the national park fees and a night in a bell tent in Flinders Chase Discovery Park.

It leaves out breakfast on day one, dinner on day two, and sandboarding at Little Sahara. If you join at Penneshaw instead of Adelaide, the ferry ticket is yours to buy, and an adjustment is made on the day. Cancel up to six days before for a full refund; after that, a fee applies.

Which fares include lunch?

• Most Barossa days, from the four-tasting days to the eight-guest day.
• The River Murray lunch cruise days, on board the Captain Proud.
• Both Kangaroo Island day tours, and four meals on the 2-day tour.
• The Taste of Adelaide market walk and the F Factor food walk.

Budget for lunch on the Gems days, the Victor Harbor day, the Adelaide Highlights day, the hop-on buses and the private Barossa day. The Cleland day includes a bakery pie, pasty or sausage roll.

How far ahead should you book?

Book Kangaroo Island first: it is the longest day, and South Australia's tourism commission advises booking the ferry and key tours early in peak periods. Small-group days have the fewest seats, so book the six- and eight-guest wine days and the Cleland day early too. The walks cap at 8 to 12 people.

The Popeye is the exception. Its seats are first come, first served, so you can decide on the day.

What is the cancellation rule on each tour?

Every tour here refunds in full if you cancel at least 24 hours before it starts, except the 2-day Kangaroo Island tour. That one refunds in full up to six days before, and later cancellations carry a fee.

When an operator cancels a water tour for weather, you are offered another date or a full refund.

Are there extra charges?

• Fuel surcharge: $5 per person per day on the Kangaroo Island full day by ferry, for bookings from 29 April 2026.
• Gratuities: listed as not included on several tours, including the Kangaroo Island in a Day tour and the Barossa day from your valley accommodation.
• On the day: strawberry picking at Beerenberg Farm, sandboarding at Little Sahara, and souvenir photos on one kayak tour.
• Drinks: alcoholic drinks on the River Murray cruise and the Taste walk, and extra drinks on most wine days.
• Not sold by any tour: holding a koala. Cleland Wildlife Park sells its koala experiences separately.
